About Us

Life throws challenges at all of us. For many men, the instinct is to push it down, tough it out, or carry the weight alone. But growth doesn’t usually come from avoiding the hard stuff — it comes from facing it.

That’s what Hard Yards is about: a space to work through the tough seasons, without judgment and without having to do it on your own.

We’re not about quick fixes or easy answers. We’re about showing up, working it through, and finding strength on the other side.

OUR COUNSELLOR

Calem Graty

New Zealand Counsellors Association Membership (NZAC), Bachelors of Counselling, Graduate Diploma Psychotherapy, EFCT Externship and Core Skills

“When I began my training as a counsellor, I looked around a room of forty students and realised I was one of only three men. That moment stuck with me. It reflected something I’d already noticed: men are often missing from these spaces.”

Calem became a counsellor because he value’s people and meaningful connection. He feel’s privileged to walk alongside others and be invited into their world. It’s not always easy, but you don’t have to face it alone.

Counselling with Calem isn’t about quick fixes. Sometimes therapy is the hard yards itself — but it’s a journey walked in connection, not isolation. Calem use’s a mix of practical tools to manage stress and unhelpful patterns, and deeper work to explore your story and relationships. You figure out together what works best for you.
